INCARCERATED

This video production follows the narrative of a wanted graffiti artist forced to confront the consequences of his actions. Implementing the same concept used in my previous project, MISSING, I crafted a wanted poster to coincide with the video release.

This project showcases my most complex edits, working day and night in order to emphasize my skills in motion graphics, transitions, color grading and audio correction. Utilizing After Effects extensively, integrating these elements to enhance the narrative flow.

For the majority of the video, I used the SONY NX-100 camcorder with the support of tripods and cameramen. Importing this footage into Premiere in order to color grade and correct audio. As the story escalates into the police chase, I switched to a GoPro Hero, mounted onto the car, to capture dynamic footage of the character’s dramatic escape. I then edited and textured the GoPro footage, applying a gritty black and white look with intensified grain. This amplifies the intensity of the chrome appearance of the street lights reflecting off the speeding car.

Through planning and brainstorming, I crafted the story’s progression and assembled the footage to align with the plot. I applied effects and transitions that complemented the unfolding narrative. The incorporation of MF DOOM’s “America’s Most Blunted”, a very clear play on “America’s Most Wanted”, where I would garner edits to synchronize with the song.

Drawing inspiration from 1990’s skateboarding videos, I aimed to achieve an authentic VHS effect that would go beyond my previous attempts. After purchasing an old CRTV that included a VHS player and recorder, I recorded the completed video onto VHS and then digitized that recording. Through numerous trial and error, I successfully achieved the genuine VHS look.

Prior to releasing the final video, I crafted a visual teaser featuring the individuals involved in the accompanying graphic design project, CRIMINALS. By incorporating intriguing footage, I paired it with Pink Floyd’s “Speak To Me” to evoke an ominous atmosphere and build anticipation for the full video project’s release. The teaser culminated with the announcement of the release date.

This comprehensive video production experience has taught me invaluable lessons, emphasizing the significance of organizing project folders to preserve assets, save files, and footage, ensuring future editability. Directing, editing, designing, and producing this project has been one of the most enriching experiences in my journey as a digital media creator. The lessons learned will guide me toward accomplishing my ambitious goals, making this project my personal favorite.
